Bits & Pieces... farewell Hawaii

Here are a few more odds & ends pictures from our trip and journey home... we left at 11:30pm from the Kahalui Airport in Maui (Dec 12) and flew through the night, getting into the Vancouver Airport around 7am. The rest of the day was spent in and out of airplanes & airports and we walked through the doors of our home at 4am, December 14th! Needless to say, the boys did not go to school that day!

this man was in our resort lobby for a couple days, displaying all his wood crafts - the boys each wanted a tiki for their Hawaiian souvenir & daddy consented...

Tiki time :)

... on the back he carved their names & did an amazing job (click on the picture to really see it)

ALOHA - at the entrance of our resort

new goggles that daddy bought the boys (not Cole's)

packing up my valuables :)

ah... the beauty

Hanakao'o Cemetery - we passed this unique cemetery almost every day & were kind of awed that it was just dirt...

The sun is setting on our holiday...

Kihei (our last stop before the airport) - the boys wanted a picture by this sign cuz 'LuLu's" was at the top of it... one of my nick names!

At the airport & waiting for daddy while he returns the rental car @ 10pm - we were in for a long night!

Ick - it is snowing outside the Vancouver Airport & reality is starting to set in....

A fun kiddie maze at the airport

Cole all buckled in & ready to fly (bringing his carseat on the plane was the best decision ever!)

Ethan - heading home with a whole new batch of freckles!!!

Liam & Jackson - very 'in' to the West Jet safety options :)

Molokini & Turtle Town

On our last full day in Maui (December 11th) we went on a catamaran snorkelling tour to Molokini and Turtle Town - it was a gorgeous day and Miles & the boys went snorkelling... I tried it for a few minutes at the end but was mostly on the boat watching the younger three kids.

We had to be there super early, so here's the morning sunrise as we drove to our destination...

some of the fish we saw...
Stop #1 - Molokini

We got breakfast & lunch on the boat - here's Andrea grilling up some burgers!

Drying off after round one...

Whatever works to entertain him and keep him content in the stroller! He was so good!

This guy, Joshua W. Greenberg of Boneyfish Studios, was our resident videographer for the day & took footage on the boat & in the water... we had to pay to be on the video (and then wore a wristband so he knew who to look for) and we just got our DVD in the mail last week! It was great to see the kids snorkelling and underwater creatures etc. Lotsa fun!

In most places you were NOT allowed to feed the fish but in Turtle Town, they gave us some leftover breakfast buns & the boys were allowed to feed the fish :) Very exciting!!

Hana Highway

Once again, we ventured out on the Hana Hwy... here are a couple sentences from the West Jet UP! magazine (Dec '09) article titled 'The Road to Hana by Harley', written by Colleen Seto, that I think sums everything up... "It's as though Maui's Road to Hana (officially and aptly called Highway 360) was built for motorcycles. The 600 curves and 54 one-lane bridges that leave many a rental car returned with a certain scent of 'eau de vomit' are the same ones that make the route riders paradise"... the whole article is written from a motorcycle perspective and after driving it, I can definitely see the reason for that mode of transportation! We were in a big rental Ford Excursion and there were some pretty tight corners! On some of the turns, you could see scrapes where vehicles had encountered the rock surface! As for the 'eua de vomit' there was a lot of that flying around too and hence the reason for a lot of stops and nature walks along the way... ah... fresh air....

This was actually on Dec 7th, near Paia and the waves were super big that day

Waves - this was a really pretty stop

Huelo Lookout - fruit & smoothie stand... another fresh air stop :)

Nature walk...

... saw a lot of interesting plants, trees, roots, etc

weird huh?!

a 'rooty' staircase

some boys we found along the way :)

Quiet trees at work

At the end of the trail, the boys had a quick game of hide & seek - Uncle Murray searched the trees and 'found' the boys...

These two were the last monkeys found (on purpose of course)... I think Liam just about filled his pants when Uncle Murray snuck around the other side of the tree and scared them

our non-motorcycle wheels :)

Hana

one of our stops - there was a truck there selling neat jewellery etc for really cheap
